Pelajaran sejarah biasanya kurang diminati anak-anak, terlebih sejarah nasional. Sejarah seolah identik dengan kesan membosankan, penuh dengan hafalan, dan banyak lagi alasan lainnya. Padahal sejarah adalah salah satu media agar anak-anak belajar dari peristiwa di masa lalu, menelusuri benang merah peradaban yang membentuk jati diri bangsanya ataupun keyakinannya.

Awalnya, kami pun sedikit ragu, jangan-jangan anak-anak kami juga sulit menyukai sejarah, apalagi mereka tidak bersekolah formal. Akan tetapi, saya cukup terpana, ketika kami mencoba memulainya dari film.Beberapa waktu lalu, kami mengunduh film Tjut Njak Dhien di sini, dan menontonnya bersama anak-anak.

Tayangan filmnya memang sedikit mengandung unsur kekerasan, tapi dengan pendampingan dan penjelasan pada bagian tersebut, efek negatifnya bisa diantisipasi. Bagaimana kami tahu intisari film itu yang mereka cerna dan bukan adegan kekerasannya? Karena kami mengajak mereka mengobrol, menceritakan ulang, dan mendiskusikannya. Dan alhamdulillah, mereka ternyata mampu mencerna semuanya sesuai harapan kami.

Setelah itu? Beruntung kami juga menemukan buku serial pahlawan yang ditulis dengan gaya populer, terbitan Bee Media Indonesia. Salah satunya adalah seri tentang Cut Nyak Dien dan Teuku Umar. Buku tersebut menjadi penguat data dan mampu membuat rasa kesejarahan lebih nyata.

Belajar sejarah tidak lagi menjadi masalah. Anak-anak menyukainya sebagai bagian yang perlu diketahui. Buat saya, hal itu sudah cukup menyenangkan. Karena jika minat belajar sudah tumbuh, anak-anak akan mencari tahu sendiri bahan-bahan yang ingin mereka ketahui.

Bertenda di Kebun

Ide selintasan yang bikin ceria anak-anak hari ini. Awalnya kami melakukan 2 hal berbeda. Anak-anak tergoda menjadikan kain sprei yang dijemur dipagar sebagai tenda mainan, sedangkan saya meratakan tanah di sekitar pohon kersen.

Ups! Saya juga melihat banyak batang singkong menganggur tergeletak. Dua ide pun bersambungan.Saya ajak anak-anak pasang tenda di tanah yang sudah saya ratakan. Perlengkapan alakadarnya. Hanya dibutuhkan 2 batang singkong yang bercabang ujungnya sebagai tiang. Tiang darurat itu pun dipasang di dua tempat. Lalu Luqman melintangkan sebatang bambu bekas rambatan kacang panjang di atasnya. Ikat dengan tali biar kuat. Bentangkan kain terpal biru yang ada digudang, pancangkan pasak. Jadi deh!

Luqman yang memalu pasak dari sisa batang singkong. Semangat sekali. Membuat tenda berdiri tak lebih dari 15 menit. Setelah karpet karet dipasang, mereka bisa asyik baca buku di bawah naungan tenda biru, bertiangkan batang singkong. Have a nice day, Kids! Bersyukur kalian bisa bersenang-senang dengan sesuatu alakadarnya, murah tapi meriah.^_^
